Steer Clear Of Credit Card Debt

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:10 am

Credit card debt is spreading like a disease these days and that’s because people tend to think of their credit card as extra cash. This can lead to extravagant spending habits that go way out of your budget. Yes, it is true that credit cards are extremely useful and that it feels great to have one. But don’t let yourself get carried away by your card. Here are a few pointers to help you steer clear of credit card debt.

The single most important thing to do regarding your credit card is to use it responsibly. Don’t go over the top and start paying for everything using your card because if you do, you’ll be in debt before you even realize it. Irresponsible usage of your credit card can affect your credit rating to a great extent. You really shouldn’t think of your card as extra money but as an unsecured loan that has to be repaid.

If you find that you are not able to keep up with your monthly payments and that you’re only able to manage to pay the minimum required amount every month, then that’s a sure sign that you’re in for credit card debt. Don’t let it get to that stage. If you find that your balance is very high, take a firm decision to stop using your credit card.

Make sure that you don’t use your credit card for your everyday purchases. It should be in your wallet only for that odd emergency expenditure. In order to control your credit card expenditure, what you should do is to sit down and budget your expenses for every month so that you know exactly where you stand financially and you are also aware of what you’d need to use your card for. Another important pointer is that of keeping only one or two cards. Owning many credit cards will make life that much more difficult for you.

A good alternative to a credit card is a debit card. In the case of a debit card, you don’t have to pay any interest. There are certain purchases for which a credit card is a good idea though, like a television, computer, refrigerator, etc. Any long-term buy can be paid for using your credit card since it cuts out having to deal with large amounts of cash. The point is to use your card intelligently, for your benefit, and not let it sink you financially.
